Jan2026

Our Oxenhall team meet on site every Tuesday and are working on the oldest part of the canal corridor. Work consists of keeping the national footpath that goes through the site and the permissive paths that the H&G Canal Trust has created to walkers near and far.

Starting at 9:00 AM and continuing until Mid afternoon

at Oxenhall Locks and Newent Station

Every Tuesday, our Oxenhall team meets on-site to maintain the historic canal corridor, including the GeoPark Way and several permissive paths established by the Trust. Looking ahead to 2026, a primary focus is the restoration of the Newent station platforms. As the last remaining artifacts of the original station, these require extensive brick reclamation and repointing. We are also actively pursuing planning permission to reconstruct original station buildings; current efforts include critical ground investigations and biodiversity assessments. At Oxenhall, final repairs to the Ell Brook bank will commence once water levels recede. Additionally, the team is working to resolve a leakage issue northwest of the aqueduct, a task that relies on sourcing local impervious clay for bank reinforcement. These aspirations need more volunteers to make them happen - volunteers with a wide range of expertise including engineering, fund raising, grant applications, surveying, plant and equipment operation, project management as well as more practical skills such as bricklaying, building, groundworks and so on... ... we need a supply of puddle clay !!
